American Pioneers

vyshnavi

A critique of those quick to lean into all-American aesthetics but slow to welcome its evolution (such as those with "plastic in their faces, talking about the poison in their milk"), the track slowly builds, until it explodes in an intensely emotive third act, pleading with her countrymen to change course.

Mellow Out

vyshnavi

An indie-rock meditation on the timeless internal war of wanting to be someone else, and hating yourself for it. Driven by a pulsing guitar riff, Mellow Out follows vyshnavi's at-times-obsessive mission to be as charming as the mysterious CoolGirl Kaitlyn. Culminating in a fervent but cathartic bridge, the track is an ode to the trials of girlhood.

About

vyshnavi is a folk-Americana(ish) singer-songwriter and climate activist from Delaware and currently based in Boston, MA. Inspired by her climate work and our rapidly changing world, she writes guitar-driven music about growing up, being a woman of color, and the ever-evolving landscape of America. With folk finger-picking leanings from Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, and Tracy Chapman and the alt-rock melodies of Fleet Foxes and The Staves, she is determined to use her observant and earnest lyricism to redefine what Americana music means and who it's for.

Her upcoming single American Pioneers epitomizes this. A critique of those quick to lean into all-American aesthetics but slow to welcome its evolution (such as those with "plastic in their faces, talking about the poison in their milk"), the track slowly builds, until it explodes in an intensely emotive third act, pleading with her countrymen to change course. Her sharp pen and melodic sensibilities create an earworm that lingers long after you listen.

If American Pioneers is an observation of the broader picture, her debut single Mellow Out is one of the complex dynamics ever-present in early-20s female friendships. Grounded with a pulsing finger-picked riff, Mellow Out details a growing infatuation with the ultimate Cool Girl, a former friend named Kaitlyn. It explores the oscillating adoration and jealousy, demarcated with obvious-to-some racial overtones, common among women of color, who must learn and relearn their place in this world.

In 2025, she is focused on recording new music and playing as many live shows as possible. Reach out to her on Instagram or at vyshnavikmusic@gmail.com for all inquiries and thoughts.
